One Christian man burning the Koran

One Christian man burning the Koran

Dr. Tarek Abou Ghazala
8th Sep 2010
September 11th 2010, is the 9th anniversary of the painful and heinous attacks which took place on America’s soil against citizens from all ethnic backgrounds and religious denominations in NY City and Washington.
However, this year, the 9th anniversary will take on a new and different level of hostility targeting the Koran and the religion of Islam, the religion of many Muslim Americans who were killed 9 years ago in the attacks.

In order to "....send a message to Radical Islam and tell them we will not tolerate their behavior," Rev. Terry Jones, the head of a small Dove outreach center Church in Gainesville, Florida, is calling for the “International Burn a Koran Day.”

As a Muslim American, this call deeply hurts me, not only because I believe in the Quran as a holy scripture and Last Testament from God to Mankind, but also because it shows how Rev. Jones is proceeding with his plans despite all calls on him from the wise of our nation and the world to halt this action.

I want to call on Rev. Jones to halt his action for a different reason, as all other reasons have come down not on deaf ears, but on perfectly normal ears which have been deafened by the loud and high pitched screaming of those calling for revenge and punishment of the Muslim Americans for their collective uncommitted crime.

I would like to sincerely ask Rev. Jones to halt this action because in the process of Burning the Quran, another process will take place, this time however, against the very Christian and Judaic faith.

Maybe Rev. Jones has never taken a deep and thorough look at the Quran, because had he done so, he would have noticed that in the process of burning it he will be burning passages relating authentic stories of the Biblical age.

By burning the Quran Rev. Jones will be burning lengthy and detailed passages relating the story of Jesus and his revered Mother Mary may peace be on them both. PBUT
He will be burning the third longest chapter of the Quran named after Mary's family, the Grandparents of Jesus "The Imrans" (27 pages) in which God exalts this family and elevates its status:
"God did choose Adam and Noah, the family of Abraham, and the family of 'Imran above all people," 003.033

He will also be burning a full 8 page chapter named after Mary the mother of Jesus:
"Relate in the Book (the story of) Mary, when she withdrew from her family to a place in the East." 019.016

He will be burning the Chapter of "The Table" named after the Table of food sent down to the disciples of Jesus to enjoy the “Last Supper” as a sign testifying to his truth: "Said Jesus the son of Mary: "O God our Lord! Send us from heaven a table set (with viands), that there may be for us - for the first and the last of us - a solemn festival and a sign from thee; and provide for our sustenance, for thou art the best Sustainer (of our needs)." 005.114

This is the same famous “Mensa Christi” table which has been artistically drawn inferring the "Last Supper" with Jesus at the center of the table surrounded by his disciples.

Rev. Jones will be burning complete chapters named after Abraham (7p), Jonah (14p), Joseph (14p) , and Noah (1p) all revered biblical prophets.

The Reverend will also be burning the chapter of "The Cave" (12p) which relates the stories of many biblical events and heroes who fought tyranny with peace and dialogue:
018.013 We relate to thee their story in truth: they were youths who believed in their Lord, and We advanced them in guidance:
018.014 We gave strength to their hearts: Behold, they stood up and said: "Our Lord is the Lord of the heavens and of the earth: never shall we call upon any god other than Him: if we did, we should indeed have uttered an enormity!
018.015 "These our people have taken for worship gods other than Him: why do they not bring forward an authority clear (and convincing) for what they do? Who doth more wrong than such as invent a falsehood against God?

He will be burning the chapter of "The Prophets (10p) dedicated to the stories of biblical prophets and the chapter of “The Ants” (9p) dedicated specifically to the story of King Solomon and his powerful reign.
He will be burning the chapter of "The Romans" (6p) dedicated to celebrating the 7th century victory of the Roman Christian believers (Great Grandfathers of Pastor Jones) over the non-believers:
"The Roman Empire has been defeated- In a land close by; but they, (even) after (this) defeat of theirs, will soon be victorious-
With God is the Decision, in the past and in the Future: on that Day shall the Believers rejoice-" 030.2-4
And indeed, within a few years this promise from God came to pass and the Muslim believers rejoiced the victory of their Christian brethren over the non-believing Persians.
I am certain that Rev. Jones never read the Quran in its entirety but rather relied on Quranic scripture extracted out of context and provided to him by arrogant individuals who serve their own agendas of spreading hatred, animosity, and division in our society.
I believe Rev. Jones is sincere in his love for America and Americans, but has chosen the wrong path to express such love.
If he really is going to do so, didn’t Jesus himself command Christians to “love your enemy?” Jesus Christ would have never burnt the belief of others in his community, as this would not have pulled together the hearts, souls and mind of a people.
This rather causes deep divisions and drive sharp wedges into the very fabric of the nation.
I understand the anger Rev. Jones has against the attackers of September 11. However, with a simple analysis of that event, it is known today that none of those criminal cowards was a Muslim American. It is a known fact that all Muslim Americans condemned the attacks. And more over, all 57 Muslim countries condemned these attacks.
Muslims today understand that Rev. Jones represents a small minority and that the majority of the Christian world condemns what he is about to do.
But we have witnessed many times in history a small minority succeeding in pushing majorities to catastrophic events.
I hope this does not turn out to be one of them.
